Level 4, Intermediate, Post 5, 'Favourite Job'
Warm Salutations
Prospective Social Scientists from FACSO,
This week, I am bringing to you the fifth out of ten blog sessions.
In this particular session, you will be asked to do the following class
assignment:
- What kind of job would you like to have? How do you imagine it?
- Outdoors /indoors?
- Would you like to travel a lot in your job?
- What about the salary?
- Add any other related ideas.
- Make comments on 3 of your classmates’ posts + a comment on your teacher's post.
- Word Count: 210 words
I leave you a sample, as usual,
"First of all, as a manner of a beginning, I would like to say that it is difficult to choose a favourite activity that you perform, in my case, I do not have any. And what is most difficult to say is that you like your job and to choose a form of making money that makes you happy. It is not a matter of choosing, it is a very opposite relationship that one, as a worker, build through time with a paid endeavour.
This relationship is only of a monetary nature, and since it is of this character, one cannot decide if that form of personal and intimate bond that one holds with money is healthy at all. I think it is probably not. So, in short words, a monetary relationship does not bring, as the common place dictates, happiness.
If the pursue of happiness does not reside in a paid adventure that you perform as a main character, one cannot ultimately say, that one holds the idea of a favourite job. As the common place also dictates, a job means slavery. One eventually will say that one rejects slavery since the common place, which is also politically correct, dictates.
A paid job so, should bring to us all, the ultimate form of unhappiness. Let us not rejoice in this form of unhappiness, let us rejoice in the way we make this job not a form of unhappiness. It could be a very nice way of killing time".
Cheers!
Cheers!
Hi teacher, I believe that work and how to earn a living is such an important issue and almost everyone has to deal with it. I hope that a job give me the opportunity to help people and my family and throught the years I would like to make a lot of thing that make me happy.
ReplyDeleteI very much agree, abusing the idea of a dream job a lot can easily make us prey to "modern gurus" (like many "coaches"). I think few jobs can be called "dream job" and as such we must be strict about their use.
ReplyDeleteA greeting.
I'm completely agree about the value of money, this never bring you hapiness, at least not the way we expected to be, but is important for living in this capitalist system, a lot of people don't have enaugh for living and maybe if they culd have it, it could make a great diference in their lives.
ReplyDeleteHi, taking into account what you point out more than a dream job I hope that in the future I will be able to do a job that is a contribution to society, which will bring me more joy than becoming a millionaire in a job that I don't like.
ReplyDeleteI didn't tought about this statement when I wrote my blog haha, but now that I read this it makes a lot of sense to me. My decision of not wanting to persue my "dream job", because is such a personal thing and is close to my heart, I didn't wanted for it to became exhausting to do. And I'm glad of my decision actually.
ReplyDeleteHave a good night (ᐛ)ノ゙
Hello Professor, unfortunately we are in a society in which all or most people are forced to perform an activity to earn money to live or survive depending on the case. The idea is to look for a job in which we feel comfortable and with a good working environment. I hope one day we all find it, succes.
ReplyDeletehi:) I think that in our society when we have a job in mind, the first thing is how much we are going to be paid because that is how neoliberalism impacts on our relationships and decisions
ReplyDeletewow, very nice text, it make me think a lot of things, for example, i have the example of my father, who is a teacher, he loves his job and he always says "i should pay for work, not them to me", because he really enjoy to be a teacher
ReplyDeleteHow interesting it made me read this, I think it is out of the focus of what we usually think/talk about.
ReplyDeleteI think that unfortunately the most important thing is to have a job that allows us to live in a good way, but it is also important, although you can't always do both at the same time, to have a job that doesn't make us unhappy.
I very much agree with your words, I think that questioning that is very important, both the damage it does to us physically and psychologically (since we have the idea that we must constantly "serve", "produce", do something). Greetings
ReplyDeleteVery interesting his concept of work! I hope to find a job that allows me to take care of my parents and have free time. I know it's difficult but I'm calm
ReplyDeleteI really agree with the idea that a favourite job its really a different thing that a favourite paid adventure. Unfortunely for us, right now we cant say that the labour is the way of development of the people, maybe its the goal that we could dedicate to our favourite activities adn dont worry about not have so much money to pay the rent or the food. Im not in a hippie utopia, everyone should contibute to mantain the conditions of a better and more equality world. I think right now a lot of us think in get a job that let u enough time to do ur hobbies and dont have a mental breakdown.
ReplyDeleteit is a very interesting reflection, it is true that many times work enslaves people, but we also have to think that we must always aspire to have a job that makes us feel happy as much as possible
ReplyDeleteHello teacher, interesting what you write. In my case, for the post of that week, I wrote something similar. However, the form is totally different. I was very impressed by the argumentative form and how happiness appears as opposed to work. But, in the end, we only have one good way to kill time?
ReplyDeleteHello, I very much agree with what you say, it is also a very complex issue, especially considering the great social demands around it.
ReplyDeleteHi teacher, reading your post many ideas and thoughts came to my mind, is very real what did you write here. I really hope I could find happiness in the activities I will do in the future because all the decisions I have made in life have that as a goal.
ReplyDeleteThat's it's very interesting, and with a lot of reason, one of my fears it's just that my profession be converted in some a "paid jobs" how to mention in the text:(

ReplyDeleteIt is true, the dream job will not give us happiness, nothing outside of ourselves will. However, if you don't do what you love, you can still do your job in your own unique way and end up loving what you do ... or making it enjoyable. Or...take another job!, if you are alive you still have time
